The
Bird Women series commemorates the work of archeologist,
Marija Gimbutas, and her remarkable findings from
the neolithic and paleolithic civilizations of Old
Europe. The series is dedicated to Marija Gimbutas
and Riane Eisler, two women who not so much inspired
me as flung open a door. The series includes mixed
media collages using recycled materials and limited
edition prints of collages and watercolor/ink paintings.
Most of the collage pieces include words, poetry and
other snippets to help explain who the bird goddesses
were and what their importance is to us today. I find
it to be of immense importance to know that there
have been peaceful, partnership-oriented, egalitarian
societies in the distant past and to realize that
there was a time when women and their special abilities
were revered. I hope to expand my research and art
to encompass other cultures on the planet who were
peaceful and who worshipped the goddess in some form.
I am happy to donate 5-10% of my profits to a nonprofit
that helps to bring healing to humanity and to the
planet. Enjoy!
